Freshly Made Sketches #91

Time for a new sketch challenge at Freshly Made Sketches!  With Independence Day just around the corner, I made a July 4th themed card.  I put my stash of 6x6 paper pads to use for this one!  Just about everything on this card was made with the Summer Splash paper pack by My Mind's Eye.  I am trying to actually use vs just collect the paper packs! I went off the original design just a tad with my banners, here is the original sketch for your interpretation-

My USA sentiment is part of one of the paper designs.  I cut it out with a circle punch and then layered onto my rosette.  For the rosette, I cut my cardstock into a 1" x 12" strip and then scored every 1/4".  I assemble my rosettes with the help of a hot glue gun.....often my rosette comes unstuck hours later with my ATG gun.

Merry Monday #67

Back for another sketch challenge at Merry Monday!  I am really digging into the pattern paper stash for my Christmas cards lately.  Only one short week before I head out for the Close To My Heart Convention!  I can't wait to see the new Christmas stamps and papers!  I love making Christmas cards, they are my favorite!  At the moment though, I am a little tired of my current Christmas stamps.....can't wait to add some new designs to the mix!

I tore my pattern paper into a resemblance of the sketch.  Did you know that you can get a controlled tear on your cardstock by wetting it first?  I simple went over the area I wanted to tear with a waterbrush and then tore along the wet edge.

H2H Inspiration Photo Challenge

We are having a photo inspiration challenge this week at Heart 2 Heart Challenges.  The moment I saw the photo, I knew I would be inking up the Hello Tweety stamp set.  What will your inspiration be?

I love the little flowers on the bird cage and decided to replicate them in my card.  I first punched out my shapes.  Then I misted the cardstock with water and scrunched the flowers up.  The little spray pens offered by Close To My Heart are perfect for misting.  I keep one filled with water in my go to tools!  While the flowers were still damp, I inked up the edges.  Once the flowers were dry, I layered two together and added a pearl center.  They add great dimension to my stamped image.

My card is based on the sketch challenge at Sweet Sunday.  The banner in the sketch was perfect for using my favorite embellishment, burlap!

I carried over the bird cage theme to the inside of  my card. I stamped my bird cage in second generation ink to get a lighter image in the same color family.

Merry Monday #66

Once again the weekend has flown by and brings us to Monday morning! I am totally not a morning person and about the only good thing I can say about Mondays....is the Merry Monday Sketch Challenge!  Here is a look at this week's sketch-

For a different look for your banners...do not adhere them all the way down on your card.  Before applying adhesive, I roll the end of my banners on my paper piercing tool to give them a little lift.  I then apply adhesive only 3/4s of the way down the banner.  This gives a little added dimension to your card with no pop dots needed!

 

I used one of the subtle prints in the paper pack to line the inside of my card.

Freshly Made Sketches #89

Rita has a great sketch for us this week at Freshly Made Sketches.  I love the little banner details! Here is the original sketch for you to play with-

I could not resist adding in a little burlap to my card.  All of the burlap features on my card are from the burlap ribbon by Close To My Heart.  My "twine" is actually single strands of burlap pulled from the ribbon.  My banners are cut from the ribbon as well.  Have you ever attempted to cut burlap into banners and had your sharp corners unravel on you?  Here is an easy fix....before cutting your burlap, attach to a piece of coordinating cardstock.  I put ATG adhesive on scrap piece of cardstock, then attach the burlap.  It is much easier to apply the adhesive to the paper and adhere the burlap, vs applying to the burlap first.  Once you have your burlap adhered, you can then cut with scissors or die cut.  All of your strands will stay in place and you will have crisp edges.
